Great start to the Birmingham League campaign 2009
The Ashfield 1st XI maintained a hundred percent record in the new season. They followed their 6 wicket victory away at Eastnor last week with a stunning 148 run victory at The Graveyard over Newport.
Ashfield, batting first, scored 260-5 in 54 overs. Zar Suliman starred with 145 not out, with able support from Ollie Thomas (45) and Ian Carey (30).
In reply, Newport suffered regular wicket losses as the Ashfield attack again proved useful. Skipper Zubair Khan took 5-41 out of Newport's 135 all out - making Zar's runs totally unnecessary !
